Dr. Agrawal is Samuel Trask Dana Professor in the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is an elected member of the US National Academy of Sciences. His research focuses broadly on the political economy of resource governance and development with a particular focus on commons and communing. His recent research interests concern the relationship of climate change with health and conflict. His work has appeared in Science, PNAS, and Conservation Biology, among others, making huge impacts in forestry and conservation policy not only in the US, but also across the world. His paper “Changing governance of the world’s forests” (Science 320, 5882, 1460-62) turned to be very influential when calling for a greater role for community and market actors in forest governance and deeper attention to the factors that lead to effective governance beyond ownership patterns.
