Kamajit Banger, a PhD candidate in School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, found an increase in soil organic carbon stocks by 3 PgC during 1901-2010 largely due to elevated CO2 concentration, nitrogen deposition, cropland expansion and implementation of agricultural management practices in India. THis is the first attempt to quantify the relative contribution of different environmental factors in affecting soil organic carbon stocks in India. Mr. Banger is being supervised by Dr. Hanqin Tian, Director of International Center for Climate and Global Change Research and Professor of School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, Auburn University.
